Migraines (1) This is why I came to know about Clay and Clay Therapy

Updated: Jan 13, 2023

Two and a half years ago, it all started when I wanted to do something for my husband’s migraine. Migraines were unpredictable, and they happened when we least wanted them to happen.

Not only did he had a headache, but he also had severe nausea and had to rush to the bathroom many times. It reminds me of what happened at the Royal Ballet's annual Christmas performance of The Nutcracker, for which I had the courage to buy a ticket. And another disaster was when that happened at one of the ceremonies of his father’s funeral……

He was seen by a doctor who specializes in headaches. Get an MRI of his head, confirmed he had a migraine, and he tried one by one the right painkillers to see if they work. That was all that modern medicine could do. I was grateful for the confirmation of migraines as I was worried about more serious causes, but couldn't stop thinking "Is that it?".

One day, I read a blog in Japan about someone using clay poultices for migraines. I contacted her, and got an online consultation. That was Toshiko Arikawa sensei, who would later become my teacher of Clay Therapy.

I was worried if he wouldn't accept alternative therapies because he doesn't approve of them, but the migraines were so painful that he didn't have the luxury of talking about it.

So I was looking forward to his migraine (!) and tried clay poultices. Then he, who usually languished in bed until the next morning, came down to the kitchen for food that night. I remember being very surprised because I hadn't prepared dinner for him. When I told him that clay worked, he still wouldn't admit it and said it was just a mild migraine this time. But with clay, he recovered faster each time, so in the end he had to admitted it.

This is how I met clay.

The migraine story continues.
