Clay is " layered silicate minerals" (phyllosilicate minerals) and has an enormous surface area. Only one gram of clay has 800 square meter of surface area which is as wide as 3 tennis courts. Most of the surface is negatively charged in water, therefore it can attract positively charged compound such as heavy metals and waste products, between the layers and excrete from the body.
